School’s IN for Summer: UCA Leadership Institute is June 15th

Summertime in the Education world is usually synonymous with “vacation.” However, not every educator heads to the beach or the lake for three months once that final bell of the academic year rings. In fact, the summer is a great time for educators to take advantage of professional development opportunities and conferences across the state to gain additional knowledge that can be used in the classroom next academic year.

One such opportunity is the University of Central Arkansas Leadership Institute typically held in the summer. In the past two years, the UCA Leadership Institute has featured Keynote Speakers Dr. Ellen Goldring & Dr. Joseph Murphy, both from Vanderbilt, presenting on topics such as  assessing the behaviors that matter, and closing the achievement gap. In our own attempt at self promotion, the OEP was invited to present our study titled: Spotlights on Success: Traits and Strategies of Five High-Growth Schools in Arkansas.

The UCA Leadership Institute had just released information for the 2012 Conference, being held on the UCA campus on June 15th, 2012. This year’s conference theme is “District Leaders as School Improvement Agents” and will feature a keynote address by Dr. Andrea K. Rorrer. Dr. Rorrer is one of the  nation’s premier scholars on the role of district and state leaders in organizational and policy changes aimed at increasing equity in student access and learning outcomes. Her research has been published in leading journals such as Educational Administration Quarterly, Educational Policy, Theory into Practice, and Journal of Special Education Leadership. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Utah. She serves as Director of the Utah Education Policy Center and has conducted policy research and evaluations for the Utah legislature, Utah State Office of Education, local schools and districts, and community organizations.
